Common Citations

September 15, 2015 Hastings and Hastings

So what is a citation and why would anyone need to know what common citations are? Well in the context of what we will be talking about today a “citation” is just a fancy term for the word ticket. Not the cool type of ticket, like one to a Suns game, but that bad kind of ticket – the one you get while driving your car. No one ever wants to get a ticket. If we learn what the most common types of tickets are, hopefully we can avoid getting them! Today’s blog is going to be a brief overview of the common tickets. In later blogs we will get more in depth.

Speeding – A speeding ticket is probably the first thing you think of when someone brings up tickets – and big surprise – they are extremely common. It is easy for officers to tell when a driver is speeding, and it is difficult to contest the readings of a radar gun. Drive the speed limit and you can avoid having a speeding ticket ruin your day.

Distracted Driving – Distracted driving tickets are becoming more and more common as cell phone use continues to grow. Statistics show that accidents involving distracted drivers are extremely deadly, so law enforcement officers are cracking down.

Driving Without a Valid License – This one is pretty much self-explanatory, if you do not have a driver’s license, or your driver’s license is expired or for some reason invalid you will receive a ticket. The DMV is a pain, and sometimes renewing your license or dealing with issues is difficult, but avoiding this ticket should be easy.

Reckless Driving – Many states have laws against reckless driving. This also covers what is sometimes called driving with “willful” disregard for others safety. Be a safe and courteous driver and you will never have to worry about getting this ticket.

Running Red Lights and Stop Signs – Another self-explanatory ticket right? You are probably noticing a theme. Following red lights and stop signs is not a suggestion, it’s a law. It may not seem like a big deal but running red lights and stop signs leads to thousands of fatalities every year.
