Every year thousands of new laws are passed all across America. Some of these are federal laws, wide-ranging pieces of legislation that affect nearly everyone in the country. Others are state laws which affect one the individuals living in the states in which the specific laws were passed. State laws can often be interesting or quirky pieces of legislation. Today, we will learn about a few of the more recent pieces of state legislation that could impact our lives.

Boating Under the Influence

Getting behind the wheel of any moving vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous. This holds true for boats just as much as cars. In 2014, a law was passed that made it a civil penalty to refuse to submit to a drug or alcohol test while operating a motorized watercraft. Watersports are a popular pastime for many Arizona residents. This law was passed in order improve the safety of our Arizona waterways.

Maricopa Golf Cart Freedom

Speaking of popular pass time, golf is probably the most widely played sport here in Phoenix. Golf carts are frequently used to travel from one hole to another. They can now be used for transportation in age-restricted communities in Maricopa County. That is right! This law made it legal to drive golf carts or other small electric vehicles on the roads or paved shoulders of Maricopa County.

Laser Pointer Law

Laser pointers are fantastic tools for individuals delivering presentations while being terrible annoyances when in the hands of mischievous young folks. They can actually cause major health problems when they are shined in someone’s open eyes. A new law makes it a misdemeanor to shine a laser pointer at an occupied aircraft. This is upgraded to assault if the laser renders the piolet unable to fly the aircraft.
