Today we will revisit our series on the most famous and impressive highways and roads from all across the world. In our previous entry we covered only roads in the United States, from the short but crooked Lombard Street in San Francisco, to the long and narrow Historic Rout 66 which stretched form Illinois to Arizona. Today we will take a more global perspective after a brief pit stop back in America.
California: The Pacific Coast Highway
Driving the Pacific Coast Highway will take you on one of the most beautiful and memorable drives in the entire world. The PCH is etched into the side of the gorgeous California coast. It takes you past crystal blue bays, along sandy, picturesque beaches, over massive stone bridges spanning expansive gorges, and through the rolling, golden hills of California. A day driving on the PCH is truly a day well spent.
London: Abbey Road
Anyone familiar with the Beatles can close their eyes and picture Abbey Road. The Beatles, one of the most legendary rock groups off all times, recorded their 11th studio album at nearby Abbey Road Studios. During a break from recording, a picture was snapped of the four shaggy haired musicians striding confidently over the black and white stripped pedestrian crossing. The image is now part of music history, as is Abbey Road itself. Every year, thousands of Beatles fans make a pilgrimage to this London street to see for themselves the place where history was made.
Switzerland: Furka Pass
Furka Pass is nestled high up in the pristine Swiss Alps in Switzerland. It spans an amazing mountain valley, beginning in the snowy peaks of the Alps, receding by a steep and winding road to a lush, green valley floor, and then rising again to the peaks at the other side of the pass. Located almost 8,000 feet above sea level, Furka Pass is truly one of the most beautiful roads in the world.
